Creating Chatham's Future Together
A two-year programme of road improvements that will transform Chatham's traffic system and open up key regeneration sites for redevelopment starts next month.
The computer-generated image above shows how the approach to the new Chatham Bus Station will look when the work is finished.
You can also watch a video (http://www.vimeo.com/2893746) showing how Chatham's centre could look following the demolition of the Sir John Hawkins Way flyover.
These major road and junction improvements build on the benefits brought about by the replacement of Chatham’s ring road with a two-way system two years ago. The new system will open up key regeneration sites and give Chatham a future with extra traffic capacity and easier journeys. The work is being paid for by the government funding that Medway receives as a key region of the Thames Gateway.
Delivering this remodelled road system is an essential element of the 20-year regeneration programme that will establish Chatham as the commercial and cultural centre of a transformed city of Medway. The road improvements have the public support of leading businesses, including Arriva, Tesco and the Pentagon Shopping Centre.
An overview of the works can be found in this months Medway Matters magazine and a copy of the article can be downloaded here.
