Shadow Minister visits Medway’s Regeneration Sites

Shadow Minister for the Thames Gateway, Stewart Jackson MP, met Medway Council Leader Cllr Rodney Chambers today and visited some of the area’s key regeneration sites.

First stop was the Universities at Medway campus, Chatham Maritime. Medway now has four universities and more than 10,000 students – a boost to the local economy and a rapidly expanding source of skills for the future.

After a tour of St Mary’s Island he was shown Medway’s flagship regeneration site Rochester Riverside, where Crest Nicholson have been appointed to build the first 600 of 2,000 homes.

He was then taken to Chatham for an overview of major road improvements, starting in the New Year, that will open up key regeneration sites for major private sector investment and give central Chatham a robust and efficient traffic system.

Cllr Chambers said: “We were very keen that Mr Jackson should see the scale and pace of Medway’s regeneration programme. I believe he shares our strong view that regeneration here should be Medway-led and Medway-delivered. We have our own regeneration unit Medway Renaissance. It is a unique arrangement for delivery in the Thames Gateway and it is proving uniquely successful.”
